A cover photo may seem like a small thing, but it’s one of the first impressions people have of your brand. When people see your page for the first time, your cover photo is a valuable piece of real estate to showcase your brand and engage with your visitors. But when is the right time to update your business’s Facebook cover photo?
Before we get into a timeline, here are a few quick tips to keep in mind when updating your Facebook cover photo:
1. There is no need to add your logo. People see your profile photo and logo when they click on your page. Taking out the logo makes it look cleaner and methodical.
2. Step up your cover ‘photo’ game by adding a cover video instead.
3. Take mobile view into consideration when creating your cover photo. After uploading your Facebook cover photo, be sure to double check nothing is getting cut off in mobile view.
Your Facebook cover photo works best if it is 820 px by 461px. When making it, take into consideration the space at the top and bottom that will be cut off depending on what platform your customers are using to view your page.

If none of these apply to your business, then best practice for Facebook cover photos is about every 4 months. That’s right, you do NOT have to change your Facebook cover photo every single month.
Finally, if you’re stuck look to the content you’re currently creating. Does your cover photo match the tone of your organization’s posts? If the answer is no, then it’s time to update your cover photo.
