Providence is a full-service communications firm headquartered in Bakersfield, California, with an office in Fresno, CA. Providence specializes in developing strategic communications plans with extensive expertise in public affairs campaigns designed to produce successful project permitting. Our firm provides public relations support, website development and manages multiple social media accounts for our clients daily. Our current clients include those in the agriculture, water, oil and gas, transportation, healthcare, nonprofit, retail and telecommunications industries.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Relations Specialist reports to the Project Managers and is a full-time, exempt employee primarily responsible for developing strategic communications and planning and implementing a broad range of community relations campaigns, public relations and marketing efforts to advance client objectives. The Community Relations Specialist is based in Fresno, CA and maintains a high level of expertise in water, oil and gas, agriculture, telecommunications, politics, public safety, and related issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Builds and maintains relationships with members of the community.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and organizes events and volunteers to advance clients’ mission and goals.
  • Coordinating and assigning all public relations/public affairs activities in Fresno and neighboring counties.
  • Developing and managing outreach plans, including strategy, goals, budget and tactics.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with all local elected officials and staff, including but not limited to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors, Fresno City Council, Clovis City Council, water boards, school boards, etc.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong media relationships.
  • Advance company’s and clients’ position with relevant constituents.
  • Develop and executive varied and integrated communications products, including website, print publications, newsletters, digital communications, media and public relations, working with our team.
  • Engage in Business Development – actively seek opportunities for Providence to represent organizations.
  • Work with the Providence leadership to achieve organizational goals and objectives by administering the communications and public relations initiatives as determined by the larger organizational strategic planning process.
  • Evaluate an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the company’s brand identity and broaden awareness of its offerings.
  • Enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including elected officials, community leaders and organizations, Chambers of Commerce, Farm Bureau, taxpayer advocates, labor leaders and industry representatives.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes special events and press conferences.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS (IF ANY):

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or closely related field is required.
  • Minimum Five (5) years’ experience in public affairs, government affairs, marketing or similar is required.
  • Minimum Two (2) years’ experience in budgeting principles and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work extremely well as part of a team.
  • Ability to evaluate cost of a program and compare it to the benefits for the organization.
  • Excellent persuasion skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
  • Flexibility with hours – available for day and evening and weekend meetings/events.
  • Must possess a reliable vehicle, have a valid California driver’s license with driving record acceptable to the Company’s insurance provider, and be able to travel within the Central Valley.
  • Requires daily and/or weekly contact with peers in own department, as well as management, to assure effective collaboration and obtain necessary approvals for current projects. Also requires daily and/or weekly contact with clients to assure effective project outcomes.
  • Speak, read, and write in English.
