The Top 8 Digital Marketing Trends in 2020

Hello, it’s been 2020 for some time now and we want to give you the top 8 digital marketing trends for 2020. Let’s not delay any further!

1. Shoppable Posts

For those who specialize in selling widgets, Instagram’s shoppable posts might become your new best friend. Facebook (parent company of Instagram) likes their users to have a great user experience and tries to keep most of their traffic within the platform. With the reveal and implementation of shoppable posts, Instagram has made it easier (and quicker) for shoppers to get closer to the buying decision for products.

Case in point: just the other day, I was about to buy a roll of camera film – yes, they still sell those – because the seller made it so easy to access the purchase part of the sales funnel.

2. Interactive Experiences

Real talk, Costco was the O.G. for interactive experience marketing. They had plenty of samples available on the floors and you can basically eat your entire lunch meal after church on a Sunday afternoon. No? Was that just me?

Okay, but the point is, Costco was on to something that would entice consumers to pony up for the product being advertised.

Now, brands are finding ways to market their products and services through interactive experiences that sort of act like a Costco sample: you got a taste of it, now you want more of it! 2020 will feature more of these unique experiences and you should, too!

3. Better SEO Data

Not all websites are created equally but SEO is. SEO is a whole other topic of discussion but some items to note are:

  • Content length – more is better
  • Mobile search is king
  • Voice search continues to grow
  • People want digital experiences (see: Costco food samples)

4. Voice Search Integration

You thought we were going to leave voice search in the SEO section? Think again!

Voice search has been a growing trend the past couple years but it’s taking off as more and more people are getting comfortable with Siri, Cortana and the forever creepy, Alexa.

A few tips that can go a long way: when optimizing your website, think about how we speak, as opposed to how we write. As a strategic communications firm who is stuck with AP-style and a lack of oxford commas (author note: sinful!), it’s hard to implement spoken-word into our written-word. However, it works for us because a majority of our clients think the same way we do! Another tip is to take advantage of featured snippets on Google to implement this voice-to-text format.

5. Personalization

Not only have consumers become smarter in their purchase inquiries, but they also cherish personalization. Personalization creates the most unique experience for the consumer in what feels like a custom sales funnel – and they may not even know it. They just know that the product or services they are using are catered exclusively to them.

Expect for this trend to take off and watch the demand soar. We advise that you consult with the experts before taking this one on by yourself. Personalization throughout the sales funnel can be a daunting process that requires organization, attention to detail and strong content.

6. New Platforms

In Aaryck’s latest Marketing Corner, he mentioned that TikTok will be a huge hit for brands to infiltrate. However, there hasn’t been a lot of stand outs on the platform yet. This is your time to shine!

Download the app, review the content that users are posting and see how it can work for your brand! If it doesn’t work, at least you’re entertained.

7. Employee Engagement

Employee advocacy is the ace-up-your-sleeve you didn’t you had. Most people genuinely enjoy seeing other people happy and living up to their potential. This is why it’s advantageous to plan content showing happy employees, celebrate these amazing people. Also, if an employee posts something on their own to share with their family and friends, even better! Find ways to cultivate that spirit and let it happen organically.

8. Visual Content

We have all heard the phrase, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” The same goes for content on social media. On social media, it’s best to use less words and find your voice by how you look on other people’s newsfeed. I’m going to say it again louder for the people in the back: it’s best to use less words and find your voice by how you look on other people’s newsfeeds. Have some time to reflect on your branding. Your look and feel on other people’s feeds is what earns the clicks, website visits and engagement.

I hope these 8 Digital Marketing Trends in 2020 were helpful to your organization. I also hope they point you in the right direction, but if you’re struggling or don’t have the time, contact us. We are good at this.
