Project Manager

Providence is a full-service communications firm headquartered in Bakersfield, California. Providence specializes in developing strategic communications plans with extensive expertise in public affairs campaigns designed to produce successful project permitting. Our firm provides public relations support, website development and manages multiple social media accounts for our clients daily. Our current clients include those in the agriculture, water, oil and gas, transportation, healthcare, nonprofit, retail and telecommunications industries.

Job Description

The project manager reports to the operations director and is a full-time, salaried employee primarily responsible for the development and execution of campaigns on behalf our clients. The project manager will engage in business development, project procurement and otherwise support our marketing activities with current and potential clients. Working hours are generally from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, but with evening and weekend work as needed to fulfill client expectations.

  • Coordinating and assigning all public relations/public affairs activities in Kern and neighboring counties
  • Event planning and day of coordination
  • Developing and managing outreach plans including strategy, goals, budget and tactics
  • Developing a media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
  • Develop strong media pitches and secure stories with traditional media outlets
  • Direct social media team to engage audiences across traditional and new media
  • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests
  • Manage influencer communications and scheduling
  • Create content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations
  • Monitor, analyze and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis
  • Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising on an on-going basis
  • Build relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them
  • Responsible with planning and allocating the clients’ budget, which includes: monitoring spending, approving purchases, reallocating funds and approving invoices
  • Provides support and assistance as assigned to initiate and secure new business acquisition (new project hand-off, setup, cross-sell and marketing opportunities)
  • Manage all staff project deliverables
  • Seek to bring in new business
  • Maintain a utilization metric of 80%
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in public relations, marketing, politics or government relations required
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, political science, journalism or related field is required
  • Experience in communications, marketing, or public affairs with a background in journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising or similar
  • Hard working team player with exceptional organizational skills and outstanding speaking and writing ability
  • Flexibility with hours – available for day and occasional evening meetings and events
  • Must possess a reliable vehicle, have a valid California driver’s license with driving record acceptable to the Company’s insurance provider, and be able to travel within California
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software is required
  • Proven working experience in public relations, government relations or political campaigns required
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns
  • Strong relationships with business and industry media outlets
  • Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews
  • Ability to perform in high-stress environments
  • Solid experience with social media including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Event planning experience
  • Experience managing employees, volunteers
