POSITION SUMMARY:

The Public Relations Project Manager, based in our Bakersfield office, plays a crucial role in driving our agency's public relations and marketing campaigns within Kern, Fresno, and adjacent counties. This position demands a skilled communicator and strategist capable of developing comprehensive communication plans, effectively managing client portfolios, and leading our team in executing high-impact PR activities. The ideal candidate will excel in building strong media relationships, crafting compelling content, and steering digital and design projects to meet client goals. Beyond project execution, this role involves significant managerial responsibilities, including team mentorship, budget oversight, and business development, all while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practice. Working hours are generally from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend work to meet client needs.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

  • Develop strategic communications plans and branding/message frameworks
  • Lead execution of PR and marketing/communications activities
  • Mentor and manage workloads of account team members
  • Communicate with clients to provide counsel, deliver results, foster a positive relationship and manage expectations
  • Understand client opportunities, including paid, earned, owned and shared channels
  • Build consensus and foster collaboration for client initiatives
  • Craft and edit original content including public relations plans, press releases, pitches, collateral material, video scripts, social media content and more
  • Deliver on clients’ design and digital needs with company’s in-house experts by developing creative briefs and overseeing client feedback on creative and digital projects
  • Establish and nurture relationships with media and key social media influencers
  • Oversee influencer communications and scheduling
  • Pitch news and trend stories with confidence
  • Strategize and secure partnerships with influential organizations
  • Oversee account budgets, managing projects and company efforts within budget
  • Manage outside vendors and contractors
  • Identify and secure new business, including development of appropriate strategies for presentations and written proposals
  • Engage in company promotion, professional development and team building
  • Maintain a utilization metric of 70-75%

  • Minimum five (5) years of public relations experience, agency experience is a plus
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to think strategically and see the big picture

  • Proven track record of securing media coverage
  • Ability to manage stress and perform in high-stress environments
  • Solid understanding of social media and digital strategies
  • Experience managing employees, volunteers and projects
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable vehicle 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken 
  • Flexibility in working hours for occasional evening meetings and events

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Public Relations Intern, under the guidance of Project Managers, actively supports the execution of public relations, marketing, and public affairs campaigns for our clients. In addition to campaign support, the intern participates in office administrative tasks and carries out various assigned duties. This 90-day, part-time position offers a hands-on opportunity for the intern to gain valuable experience, broaden their business contacts, and enhance their knowledge of the public relations, marketing and public affairs industries[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Project Assistance: Support various projects, collaborating with Project Managers, Coordinators, Videographers and Graphic Designers.
  • Public Relations & Outreach: Assist with advocacy, outreach, and marketing campaigns.
  • Targeted Research: Conduct specific research for projects and maintain updated databases and contact lists.
  • Monitor & Summarize: Track city/county meetings and conduct news and social media roundups.
  • Event Planning Support: Assist with organizing and executing events, including logistics for booths and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
  • Social Media Management: Work with team to design, schedule, and produce engaging content for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X and LinkedIn. Create reels for social media. Monitor messages and comments, evaluate engagement/engagement rate monthly for accounts.
  • Email Marketing: Assemble email newsletters, curating content and managing distribution lists.
  • Create Marketing Materials: Produce simple graphic designs and prepare PowerPoint Slide Decks. 
  • Assist in Inventory Management: Support the Office Manager by helping to update and manage inventory and swag.
  • Photo and Video Shoot Assistance: Assist during photo and video shoots at various events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Act as receptionist when the office manager is out.
    • Greet visitors in a friendly manner.
    • Operate telephone system to answer the phone, check voicemail and transfer calls.
    • Compose and follow-up on emails and general communication.
    • General support to director of operations and other staff with data entry, photocopying and filing.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Mental - The intern will spend several hours in moderate concentration on the computer entering various types of information which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.

Physical - The intern will spend several hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The intern will also have to do some lifting of supplies and materials.

Environmental - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerances. Occasionally, the physical environment requires the employee to work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Note: Work may be performed at the company office or other locations, as determined by management and the needs of the business. Work from home may be required under certain circumstances.  

Manual dexterity - Requires use of hands and arms to operate personal computer, calculator, copy machine, telephone, and other general office equipment and to record written information.

Audible - Requires the ability to verbally communicate with clients, vendors, key contacts and internal departments in person and via telephone.

Visual - Requires the ability to read written documentation and reports, operate office equipment such as computers and printers and drive a vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Pursuing a degree in a related field or recent college graduate (e.g., Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing/Communications, or English)

Must be able to work part time during the school year.

Flexibility with hours – available for day and occasional evening meetings (will accommodate student schedule).

Must have access to a reliable vehicle, have a valid California driver license with driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier, and be able to travel within Kern County.

Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Teams).

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, possess good organizational skills, be detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
