Providence specializes in developing strategic communications plans with extensive expertise in public affairs campaigns designed to produce successful project permitting. Our firm provides public relations support, website development and manages multiple social media accounts for our clients daily. Our current clients include those in the agriculture, water, oil and gas, transportation, healthcare, nonprofit, retail and telecommunications industries.

Job Description

The Public Relations Intern, under the guidance of Project Managers, actively supports the execution of public relations, marketing, and public affairs campaigns for our clients. In addition to campaign support, the intern participates in office administrative tasks and carries out various assigned duties. This 90-day, part-time position offers a hands-on opportunity for the intern to gain valuable experience, broaden their business contacts, and enhance their knowledge of the public relations, marketing and public affairs industries

  • Project Assistance: Support various projects, collaborating with Project Managers, Coordinators, Videographers and Graphic Designers.
  • Public Relations & Outreach: Assist with advocacy, outreach, and marketing campaigns.
  • Targeted Research: Conduct specific research for projects and maintain updated databases and contact lists.
  • Monitor & Summarize: Track city/county meetings and conduct news and social media roundups.
  • Event Planning Support: Assist with organizing and executing events, including logistics for booths and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
  • Social Media Management: Work with team to design, schedule, and produce engaging content for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X and LinkedIn. Create reels for social media. Monitor messages and comments, evaluate engagement/engagement rate monthly for accounts.
  • Email Marketing: Assemble email newsletters, curating content and managing distribution lists.
  • Create Marketing Materials: Produce simple graphic designs and prepare PowerPoint Slide Decks.
  • Assist in Inventory Management: Support the Office Manager by helping to update and manage inventory and swag.
  • Photo and Video Shoot Assistance: Assist during photo and video shoots at various events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Act as receptionist when the office manager is out.
    • Greet visitors in a friendly manner.
    • Operate telephone system to answer the phone, check voicemail and transfer calls.
    • Compose and follow-up on emails and general communication.
    • General support to director of operations and other staff with data entry, photocopying and filing.
  • Assist with office administration tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in a related field or recent college graduate (e.g., Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing/Communications, or English)
  • Must be able to work part time during the school year.
  • Flexibility with hours – available for day and occasional evening meetings (will accommodate student schedule).
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle, have a valid California driver license with driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier, and be able to travel within Kern County.
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Teams).
  • The successful candidate will be self-motivated, possess good organizational skills, be detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
